Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane Season officially starts on June 1st  and ends on November 30th each year.  Everyone here at Kings Park should be prepared and ready, should a storm hit us.

PLAN AHEAD:
Make sure you know what to do if we are under a Hurricane Watch or a Hurricane Warning. If you intend to evacuate, know in advance where and how. If you want to weather the storm here at home, have what it takes to survive several days without power (light, cooking, elevators, A/C and refrigeration) and possibly without drinkable running water.

SECURE YOUR UNIT:
In both buildings A and C, old windows are not wind resistant, so make sure you are able to put your window protections timely if these need boarding. Don’t count on our condo staff to help you out. They will be busy securing the common elements and they will also go home promptly to secure their own dwelling. If you live in the B Building, you may do without boarding your windows since they are wind resistant. However, all items on patios and terraces have to be removed and stored indoors.

ABSENTEE OWNERS:
Have someone locally to help you secure your units. Our maintenance person will not be able to help out.

AFTER THE STORM:
Depending on the severity, it may take days for things to go back to normal. It is useless to try to contact the Property Manager office; they might be closed until power resumes and will not be able to come and visit the property anyway.

KEEP INFORMED:
Media in general have a lot of information available regarding tropical storms, preparation tips and recommendations. You may also consult the National Hurricane Center site (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov) for up-to-the minute information on tropical storm in our region or the Florida Emergency site at http://www.floridadisaster.org for additional info on preparedness.

Remember that you are ultimately responsible to take care of your unit, not the Board nor the Property Manager! Please keep informed and take any storm warning seriously.
